Our Philosophy and Mission Summarized:
Step By Step’s behavioral intervention
program is based on “Floor Time” techniques
intertwined with Trans-disciplinary Play
Based Intervention, best practices for
parent training, and use of natural and
logical consequences. The interventions and
techniques we use are based on the child’s
developmental level, rather than
chronological age, although age-appropriate
activities are used as much as possible
during intervention.
Our Program:
Step By Step provides 1:1 behavioral support
for children in the school setting.
Contracts are usually given by the district
and may provide full to part time behavioral
support within the classroom. We also offer
supervision and consultation contracts which
allow a behaviorist to work with the
existing school staff. The behaviorist may
model interventions, give trainings, and
provide assistance with creating and
implementing behavioral supports.
Step By Step holds the belief that the best
interventionists in the home are his or her
caregivers. Thus, our job is not only to
provide the highest-quality intervention
during our sessions, but also to train the
caregivers by modeling the appropriate
techniques as they observe. Our goal is
that each child and family will work to
develop their own skills, eventually gaining
independence from our services. As this
happens, we will transition to other
families who are in need of our help.
Step By Step provides 1:1 behavioral
intervention services to clients in the
home, in schools, and in the community.
They also provide training, support, and a
positive model for families. Most
interventionists have a minimum of a
Bachelor’s degree and receive continued
training on a regular basis. They are
encouraged to receive additional training
outside of Step By Step and to enroll in
academic programs to continue their formal
education.
Supervision is provided to support the
interventionists and to ensure that the
interventions are appropriate, ethical, and
consistent. Step By Step uses many positive
behavioral support techniques such as
modeling, token economies, positive praise,
and others. Progress is measured using
pre-test/post-test, direct observation,
process notes, charting, consistency
measurements, and other methods which are
appropriate for the setting and the client.
