ARTS & CRAFTS |
Social skills through art provides children
and facilitators a wide open spectrum of
creative avenues to implement an age
appropriate, challenging, open ended
curricula in a safe nurturing environment
where children can experience using visual
and physical aides as a vehicle for
appropriate social interactions.
Why is an Art Class beneficial for my
child?
Children are active learners who learn best
through hands-on manipulation of the
environment, as well as knowledge
transmitted by adults, to build their own
understanding of the world around them. This
means children will be offered the
opportunity to learn by manipulating an
environment planned by adults, and through
information shared by adults at a
developmentally appropriate level.
Participating in art activities helps
children to gain the tools necessary for
understanding human experience, adapting to
and respecting others' ways of working and
thinking, developing creative
problem-solving skills, and communicating
thoughts and ideas in a variety of ways. Art
nurtures inventiveness as it engages
children in a process that aids in the
development of self-esteem, self-discipline,
cooperation, and self-motivation.
Art is a sensory experience that involves
discovering and experimenting with an
assortment of textures and materials. Art
classes create a pathway for appropriate
exploration of a wide variety of mediums. It
builds confidence and a sense of
gratification. It allows children to share
their creations; to compare and contrast how
we all see things a little bit differently;
that art can be anything! One of the aspects
that makes art unique is it’s capacity to
communicate information and/or meaning
through means other that verbal/language. A
number of researchers now suggest that
cognition, perception and feeling are all
closely linked. Art education is based on
relationships. Children learn a great deal
through interaction with other children,
especially in small groups. Teachers also
work to build authentic relationships with
children in order to build confidence in the
child's sense of his/her own inquiry. Art
Class is more than just a good time!
